Powerful and fast-charging!
These batteries are the fastest charging cordless tool batteries I’ve ever used and they will put in a full day’s work and then some before you have to recharge them. The 3.0 Amp Hour batteries take about 35-40 minutes to charge (there are 1.8Ah batteries for the drills that take less than 20 minutes!) if completely depleted and they’re ready to take up again right where they left off! As some other reviews have mentioned, the only down side to them is there’s very little warning when they do run out of juice, but seen from another point of view, they do keep running strong up to the last minute. So that’s a tradeoff I can live with. I have four Makita tools that use this battery, and each has ONE battery, no extra spares, and I’ve never had to completely stop working to charge a battery. I just use one from another tool while I charge the one that ran down. Unlike other brands where I had to have 1-2 extra batteries for each tool!

Endless power!
Really, these batteries provide seemingly endless power. They hold their charge for weeks with very little loss. I can use one battery for drilling and driving throughout an entire (moderately sized) project. They are extremely lightweight and charge in twenty minutes or less usually (in hot weather it takes longer). All three of mine slide on and off easily, with no issues of binding or falling off. With all the praise comes a VERY important caveat. DO NOT run these batteries into the ground. The instructions state that as soon as you notice a loss of power, stop and charge. If you over-discharge Li-Ion batteries, you can seriously degrade the life of the battery. These batteries are 1/3 cheaper on Amazon.com than at the home centers, so buy from here! Also, only the cells themselves are made in Japan, all other parts are made and final assembly is in China.

This Makita drill also has the most advanced charging system available and it charges in only 15 minutes! Generically, it’s called a “smart charging system.” A computer chip inside the battery lets the charger know exactly how to optimally charge the battery, to completely charge each cell within the battery and for maximum battery life. Each battery is made up of smaller 1.2 volt cells. Often a battery will drain unevenly during normal use, at different rates within these internal cells. A normal charger will stop charging the battery when one cell reaches maximum capacity, not all of them. Once this happens once, it will continue to do so as long as you use the battery. What this means is your 18-volt battery is now a 16- or 17-volt battery and it can drop even lower. A “smart charger” will charge every cell independently until each cell is fully charged, so your 18-volt battery will remain 18 volts for its entire life. This charger has a fan in it and blows air through the battery to cool it down before charging so the battery can be charged right away, unlike other brands, where the charger waits until the battery cools, or even worse attempts to charge a hot battery pack and damages it or decreases the life of the battery. GREAT DRILL
This has become my main drill. I use it daily and prefer it over my full size LXT drill due to its size. After a year of use it still performs as new. It and all of my Makita LXT tools are the best I’ve used in 20 years working as an electrician. (Including tools from Bosch, Milwaukee, Panasonic, and previous Makita models.)

As advertised
Everything I expected from Makita, so far. The driver came with two fully charged batteries, and in great condition for a factory reconditioned product. It is light and powerful, and the LED worklight is a nice addition. The compact size is very handy when working in tight quarters.

The chuck covering is a little soft, and it got very scuffed up and is rough from doing some close work to a screw head. At least it looks used, now. The case is cheap and clunky, but I will be using a tool bag for storage and transportation. The biggest annoyance with this unit is the lack of on-board driver storage. I almost always have the phillips head bit in the chuck, anyway, but I was surprised to see there was no where to store even one bit on the body of the driver.

At the price ($129), I think it is a tremendous bargain for a Li-Ion 18v driver from an industry leader. Good work, Makita.

Best tool in my workshop
I have had this driver-drill for about 9 months now. I am a hobbiest wood worker with limited time for doing projects. I just finished using the Makita for building a 7-ft high x 8-ft wide wall unit (shelving unit) that was completely screwed together using a pocket hole jig (another absolute must-have for even a novice woodworker). I built this out of MDF with poplar trim, so not the hardest stuff to work with by any stretch, but the unit handled it well. I actually had it all screwed together and then decided it was the wrong size so I took it all apart and got it just right. The Makita has performed extremely well with no exceptions. I have very little fatigue because the drill is light with the 1.5 amp-hour battery, and I can always buy the 3.0 amp-hr battery later. I always have a second battery ready because the charge time truly is only 15 minutes. The quality is excellent, the power is all I ever need, the compact size and ergonomic design are excellent, and being able to switch between driving speed (slower) and drilling speed (faster) makes this a great all around tool. The LED light is great and has been very valuable when working in dark confined spaces. I am not rich so $200 (when I bought it) was an investment for a drill, but I am thrilled with this tool. The reviews all pointed to this one. And now I am looking at other Makita cordless products to add to my collection, like the reciprocating saw. Highly recommend this. Only wish there was somewhere to attach a screwdriver bit somewhere on the handle.

Great Product and Service

Great Replacement Battery
I bought this battery cheaper than I could have gotten it in a box store including the delivery. I like the DeWalt brand and so far I’m getting what I paid for. I expect it will be as good as the one it replaced - DeWalt brand.

Easy
I had a prewired truck and ordered a prewire kit so I didn’t have to cut or install any wires on my vehicle. Once installed and adjusted, the brake controller worked perfectly. I purchased this for a one time use of towing a camper, but it would easily work for any other trailer with powered brakes.
